Il 2023 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival presentato da Palace torna nei cinema di Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra e Byron Bay dal 19 settembre, trasportando il pubblico in Italia con una straordinaria selezione del meglio del cinema italiano contemporaneo. Saranno proiettati film drammatici, commedie e documentari pluripremiati, in perfetto orario per celebrare l’inizio della primavera.
Il Festival è entusiasta di dare il benvenuto alla meravigliosa e talentuosa scrittrice di cucina, produttrice televisiva e conduttrice italo-australiana Silvia Colloca come ambasciatrice del Festival 2023. Grande appassionata di cinema, Silvia parlerà delle sue scelte migliori per il Festival e delle sue origini italiane.
Ad aprire il Festival 2023 sarà l’emozionante film drammatico L’ULTIMA NOTTE DI AMORE (L’ultima notte di Amore), diretto dalla superstar italiana Pierfrancesco Favino. L’elegante thriller ambientato a Milano segue un tenente di polizia (interpretato da Favino) che viene trascinato in una rete di crimini e corruzione alla vigilia del suo pensionamento ed è stato un grande successo al botteghino italiano.
La prima delle due Presentazioni Speciali che verranno annunciate è l’intensa storia d’amore e di vendetta di BURNING HEARTS (Ti mangio il cuore). Ambientato in Puglia e girato in uno splendido bianco e nero, il film vede la cantante Elodie al suo primo ruolo da attrice.
Presentazione speciale del Festival CARAVAGGIO’S SHADOW (L’ombra di Caravaggio) è un atteso dramma storico dello scrittore/regista Michele Placido, interpretato da Riccardo Scamarcio e Isabelle Huppert. Il film esplora le lotte del famigerato e geniale pittore rinascimentale, indagato dal Vaticano.
Tra gli altri film da non perdere, A BRIGHTER TOMORROW (Il sol dell’avvenire), l’ultima proposta del leggendario Nanni Moretti, che arriva direttamente dal Festival di Cannes dove è stato presentato in Concorso. Con un cast all-star, il nuovo film di Moretti è una meta-commedia in cui un regista cinematografico è alle prese con la famiglia, l’arte e la cultura.
Interpretato da Toni Servillo, STRANGENESS (La stranezza) è stato il film dell’anno ai Premi Nastro d’Argento 2023 ed è stato uno dei migliori incassi in Italia. Ispirato a fatti realmente accaduti, segue il leggendario drammaturgo Luigi Pirandello durante un viaggio in Sicilia negli anni ’20, dove incontra una coppia di attori dilettanti – un incontro che porta grandi sorprese.
Il programma completo del Festival sarà annunciato e i biglietti saranno in vendita da giovedì 24 agosto.

The 2023 ST. ALi Italian Film Festival presented by Palace returns to cinemas in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Byron Bay from 19 September, transporting audiences to Italy with a stunning selection of the best in contemporary Italian cinema. Award winning drama, comedies and documentaries will feature, timed perfectly to celebrate the start of spring.
The Festival is thrilled to welcome the wonderful and talented Italian-Australian food writer, TV producer and host Silvia Colloca as the 2023 Festival Ambassador. A great lover of film, Silvia will be talking about her top picks for the festival plus her Italian heritage.
Opening the 2023 Festival is the exciting drama THE LAST NIGHT OF AMORE (L’ultima notte di Amore) led by Italian superstar Pierfrancesco Favino. The stylish Milan set thriller follows a police lieutenant (played by Favino) who is drawn into a web of crime and corruption on the eve of his retirement and was a major Italian box office hit.
The first of two Special Presentations to be announced is the searing, intense crime story of love and revenge BURNING HEARTS (Ti mangio il cuore). Set in Puglia and shot in stunning black and white, the film features singer Elodie in her first acting role.
Festival Special Presentation CARAVAGGIO’S SHADOW (L’ombra di Caravaggio), is an eagerly anticipated historical drama from writer/director Michele Placido, starring Riccardo Scamarcio and Isabelle Huppert. It explores the struggles of the notorious and brilliant Renaissance painter as he is investigated by the Vatican.
Other unmissable highlights include A BRIGHTER TOMORROW (Il sol dell’avvenire), the latest offering from the legendary Nanni Moretti, which arrives direct from the Cannes Film Festival where it screened in Competition. Featuring an all-star cast, Moretti’s new film is a meta-comedy in which a movie director struggles with his family, art and culture.
Starring Toni Servillo, STRANGENESS (La stranezza) was the Film of the Year at the 2023 Nastro d’Argento Awards and a top box office performer in Italy. Inspired by true events, it follows legendary playwright Luigi Pirandello on a trip to Sicily in the 1920s where he meets a pair of amateur actors – a meeting which brings great surprises.
